How to Cancel Spotify Premium

Cancel online

If you are being charged for Spotify Premium but your account shows Spotify Free, the subscription may be on a different login. If you can find the cancel option, cancellation is straightforward. If you cannot, a partner handles billing.

Cancel online

Go to spotify.com/account, scroll to Your plan, and select Manage your plan. Choose Cancel Premium and confirm. The cancel option only appears for direct subscribers. If you do not see it, a partner controls billing and you cancel through them instead. If you are on a Family or Duo plan, only the plan manager sees the cancel option. Members can leave the plan, but leaving does not cancel the subscription or stop the manager from being charged.

Read this before you cancel

If you subscribed through Apple, Google Play, or a phone or internet provider, Spotify cannot cancel your subscription. Check your bank or credit card statement to find who charges you and cancel through that company. Spotify does not offer phone support. Help is available through their online support and messaging.

After you cancel

Premium features stay active until the next billing date. After that your account reverts to Spotify Free. Playlists and saved music are kept, but offline downloads are removed and listening becomes ad-supported with shuffle restrictions.

What to save as proof

If billing continues, these make the dispute faster.

  1. 1Screenshot of the account page showing your plan status and the date Premium ends
  2. 2Confirmation email from Spotify with the cancellation date
  3. 3If billed through a partner, screenshot of that platform showing the subscription change

What goes wrong

  • Charges continue but the account shows Spotify Free. Premium is on a different Spotify login.
  • Changed to a different plan instead of canceling and continued being charged for Premium
  • Family or Duo member left the plan but assumed that canceled the subscription. Only the plan manager controls billing.
  • No cancel option on the account page because billing runs through Apple, Google, or a carrier
  • Free trial converted to a paid subscription because it was not canceled before the trial ended
