How to Cancel YouTube Premium
Direct subscribers cancel through youtube.com/paid_memberships. If you signed up through Apple, you cancel through Apple subscription settings instead. Only the family manager controls a family membership.
Cancel online
Go to youtube.com/paid_memberships, find your Premium membership, and select Manage. Choose Cancel membership and confirm. YouTube may offer a pause option before canceling. Pause and cancel are different. Pausing suspends billing temporarily. Canceling ends the membership at the end of the billing period.
Read this before you cancel
If you signed up on an iPhone or iPad, billing likely runs through Apple. Canceling on YouTube will not stop those charges. Go to Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and cancel YouTube Premium there. If you are not sure who bills you, check your credit card or bank statement. If the charge says Apple, cancel through Apple. YouTube does not offer phone support. Help is available through online chat and support forms.
After you cancel
Premium features stay active until the end of the billing period you already paid for. After that, ads return, background play stops, and offline downloads are removed. Your watch history, subscriptions, and playlists are not affected.
What to save as proof
If billing continues, these make the dispute faster.
- 1Screenshot of the paid memberships page showing your cancellation and end date
- 2Confirmation email from Google or YouTube with the final billing date
- 3If billed through Apple, screenshot of Apple subscription settings showing the cancellation
What goes wrong
- Canceled on YouTube but charges continued because billing ran through Apple on an iPhone or iPad
- Family member lost access and assumed the membership was canceled. Only the family manager controls billing.
- Charges continue but the account shows no Premium. The membership may be on a different Google account.
- Chose Pause instead of Cancel and billing resumed automatically after the pause period ended
- Confused YouTube Premium with YouTube TV, which is a separate subscription with its own billing
