Streaming Subscription Is Billed Through Roku or Amazon

You are trying to cancel a streaming service but the charge comes from Roku or Amazon, not the service itself. Here is how to find the subscription and cancel it in the right place.

What to check

  • If you signed up for a streaming service through a Roku device or the Roku Channel Store, Roku controls the billing. Canceling on the streaming service's website or app will not stop the Roku charge. Go to my.roku.com, sign in, open Manage Your Subscriptions, and cancel the service there. The Roku account that activated the subscription is the one that controls it.

  • If you signed up through Amazon Prime Video Channels, Amazon controls the billing. Services like Max, Paramount Plus, AMC Plus, and others are available as add-on channels inside Prime Video. Canceling on the service's own site does not stop the Amazon charge. Go to amazon.com/gp/video/subscriptions or Your Memberships and Subscriptions in your Amazon account to cancel the channel.

  • Check your bank or credit card statement to confirm who is actually charging you. If the charge says Roku, cancel through Roku. If it says Amazon or Prime Video, cancel through Amazon. If it says the streaming service name directly, the subscription is not running through either platform and you cancel on the service's own site.

  • Removing the app or channel from your Roku device does not cancel the subscription. The subscription lives in your Roku account, not on the device. You can remove the channel from your home screen and still be billed. The same applies to Amazon: removing a channel from your Prime Video watchlist does not cancel it.

  • If you have more than one Roku account or Amazon account, the subscription may be on a different login than the one you are checking. Roku accounts are tied to an email address, and a household may have set up more than one over time. Amazon accounts can also accumulate if different family members created separate logins. Match the email on the charge to the correct account.

  • Amazon Prime Video Channel access may end immediately when you cancel, not at the end of the billing period. This is different from most streaming subscriptions. If you cancel a channel through Amazon, expect to lose access right away. Roku channel subscriptions typically continue until the billing period ends, similar to canceling directly with the service.

  • Save proof after canceling. Screenshot the Roku or Amazon subscription management page showing the cancellation. If a charge appears after you canceled, these screenshots help you dispute it. Note the date you canceled and the email address of the account you used.
